Every community has its unique problems. This is as true for European Americans as it is for African Americans, Hispanics, or any other category of people. We are undoubtedly the only ethnic group in America which has not organized on its own behalf. If we continue to neglect our own interests, we will be swept into insignificance before this century is done. It’s time we realized that we, too, are a people - a people who need to solidify our community and address our problems. Many challenges await our response. Health issues are an important category. Alcohol and drug abuse, poverty, broken homes, and low self-esteem are some others. There was a time we could pretend that everything was fine with white people. Blacks had drug problems, Native Americans drank too much, non-whites in general suffered from poverty. But us? Oh, no - we were too good for that! Life in white neighborhoods was healthy and moral and “normal.” The problems were somewhere else. If that was ever true, it is no longer so: Drug use in the all-white suburbs is epidemic. About half the poor people in America are of European descent. When it comes to self-esteem, we’re just about on the bottom of the pile. In some white communities, single-parent families are the norm rather than the exception. We, as men and women descended from noble ancestors, are in charge of our fate. We can ignore the facts. We can blame other racial groups. Or we can accept responsibility, and fix the problems. The Health and Social Concerns Project (an endeavor of the EAIF) chooses the latter choice. We want to inform our kin, and help them take action. Read the links below - and act!
