San Francisco Beat

Lou Calabro, who was president of the EAIF for five years and who is now our San Francisco Bay Area representative, is busy as usual! The following selection of letters are ongoing examples of his in-their-faces, bulldog approach. Go, Lou!

Ethnic Nepotism vs. Equal Treatment
Mayor Willie L. Brown Jr. Leads the Way

San Francisco CA. July 12, 2002- The appointment of Earl Sanders as San Francisco’s new Chief of Police by San Francisco Mayor Willie L. Brown Jr. confirms that in this town ethnic nepotism wins over any consideration of equal treatment when granting romotions.

Earl Sander’s, although a decent police officer, is no stranger to the divisive and destructive use of ethnic nepotism and affirmative action. His elevation to Chief of Police is a perfect example of unequal treatment in the world of public employment.

He holds a B.A. Degree and a Master’s Degree from Golden Gate University of San Francisco, and yet his promotions to Sergeant and Lieutenant of Police in the Department are tainted with the use of affirmative action; essentially, he skipped over other police officers who passed higher on the examination; nothing to be proud of in our opinion.

Ethnic nepotism and identity politics seem to have totally overtaken all considerations of equal treatment for ALL citizens of this City, regardless of their racial/ethnic makeup. A sad day for the citizens of San Francisco and city workers while obviously a happy one for Earl Sanders. We disagree with this promotion, but wish him success.

San Francisco Supervisor Disparages Irish Firefighters

SF Supervisor Gerardo Sandoval, while discussing the makeup of the City's Rent Board blurted out that he did not want the members of the Board to end up like the San Francisco Fire Department where the list of employees reads "like the Dublin phone book." (SF Examiner, 07/10/02--Frank Gallagher pg. A-9)

Sandoval denies he ever made such a statement but John Hanley, President of the SF Fire Fighters Union said he couldn't believe his ears, especially when the SF Fire Department is "the most diverse fire department in the county." Others also claim they heard him say it. Sandoval's phone number is (415) 554-6975 and his e-mail is Gerardo_Sandoval@ci.sf.ca.us.

EAIF Bay Area Representative Lou Calabro will present a proposed Resolution before the San Francisco Board of Supervisors condemning Sandoval's racist comments and demanding that he apologize to the Irish American Firefighters and the Irish American community of San Francisco.

NOTE: Subsequent to posting this notice to members on the internet, and e-mails to Supevisor Sandoval he contacted Lou Calabro by telephone. Lou advised him to publicly apologize in writing to the Irish Firefighters and the Irish community at large and we would forego submitting a Resolution to the Board condemning his hurtful rhetoric.

Anti-Defamation League Promotes Racial Hatred
Will there be an Investigation or a Coverup?

The European/American Issues Forum filed a formal complaint against the San Francisco Anti-Defamation League (ADL) on June 5, 2002 with the San Francisco Human Rights Commission. The ADL promotes the idea that European Americans are not victims of racial animus, and therefore they are the purveyors of racial animus and the perpetrators of hate crimes.

In this instance the ADL placed a full page ad in the San Francisco Chronicle on 5/30/02 titled “The Covenant to Eradicate Anti-Semitism and Hate in the B ay Area”. The ad recognized major racial/ethnic groups as victims of hatred, except European Americans. Other examples of the ADL’s attitude toward European Americans were included in the complaint.

Repeated telephone calls have been made to Director Virginia Harmon and Chair Ghada Saliba-Malouf of the SF Human Rights Commission (HRC)to determine the status of the complaint, without the courtesy of a response.

There is fear in the European American community that Mayor Willie L. Brown Jr., a man whose racial attitude toward European Americans has been in question before, has ordered the HRC to “round file” the complaint.

According to the HRC’s website “The Human Rights Commission works to provide leadership and advocacy to secure, protect and promote human rights for all people.”

We hope they understand that European Americans ARE people, and conduct a thorough investigation into our complaint. Driving a racial wedge between European Americans and all other racial groups is destructive and divisive, and does not belong in a civilized society.

Hatred should be eradicated, not promoted.

What’s wrong with this Picture?
Anti-Semitism vs. Anti-European Americanism

The San Francisco Anti-Defamation League placed a full page ad in the San Francisco Chronicle on May 30 with the title of “Today, we stand together against anti-Semitism and hate.” The ADL listed a series of serious anti-Semitic acts that they and the entire community are concerned about. The ad also expressed concern for most racial/ethnic victims of hatred, except European Americans.

Subsequently, San Francisco’s Mayor Willie L. Brown Jr., San Francisco State University President Robert Corrigan, Rev. Cecil Williams of Glide Memorial Church and many Bay Area Mayors and Civic Leaders joined ADL Director Jonathan Bernstein in a press conference to speak out against hate with one voice.

Fortunately, the ADL list of acts of anti-Semitism did not reach the level of murder. To the best of our knowledge there has been very few acts of anti-Semitism that have resulted in murder. However, that is not true when it comes to acts of anti-European Americanism.

For the past five years the European/American Issues Forum has held a Zebra Victims Memorial Service on the steps of San Francisco’s City Hall in memory of the 15 European Americans who were victims of racially motivated murders because they were “blue eyes devils”. Their murderers were connected to a vicious cult called the “Death Angels”.

Although invited, neither Mayor Willie L. Brown Jr. and/or many Civic, Church and Synagogue leaders have ever attended these Memorial Services. The San Francisco Chronicle and other news outlets in the Bay Area obviously decline to publish news stories about those murders, and the Memorial Service. No member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors has ever attended.

Clearly, there has been a different response to acts of anti-European Americanism in the Bay Area and beyond. As another example the San Francisco Chronicle refused to publish the December 15, 2000 home invasion in Wichita, Ks. wherein five young European Americans men and women were raped, robbed, subjected to sexual molestation, and eventually driven to a soccer field. Then, each was shot in the head execution style while they were made to kneel on the ground. One victim, a young woman, survived and walked nude in the snow to a house and was hospitalized. The trial against the two non-European American killers is scheduled to begin in September 2002.

There are many other vicious and violent acts against European Americans that the news media and Civic Leaders chose to ignore and hide from public view. That is wrong.

The European/American Issues Forum is a moderate and thoughtful Bay Area civil rights organization dedicated to the eradication of discrimination against and defamation of European Americans. We do not denigrate or slur other racial/ethnic groups and welcome those who support our policy.
